I just want people to know the reason why most people use "improper grammher" is because they know it pisses you guys off. For me i could care less about how someone types; I do not judge the person how they type either. Luckly for me I can read proper typing and "text typing", this is 2011 maybe you guys should try to keep up with it and learn hopw to read it, I can. I'm not trying to piss anyone off by this but I truely believe less people would stop putting up spam if less people cared.....just saying.

We can read the annoying txt speak. But annoying txt speak is annoying. It drags down the quality of the forum, and thus it is prohibited. Luckily, it is not the job of us moderators to sway everyone to our opinions about grammar but rather to simply enforce the rules and reprimand/ban repeat offenders.

That post is funny.

Also Kelseyyy: Those who's maternal language isn't English often have a hard time understanding text speak. We are only taught proper grammar in school, we (or I at least) don't use English txt speak, as we don't send texts in English. Just another reason why proper grammar and spelling is wonderful.

I hadn't even thought about that benefit. Well said, jaxxie.

Ah, two cents moment...

Yes it is 2011, "txt" is not the language of the future, it is the language of the lazy typist and conforming to character limits. Have you seen a character limit sign here? I think not, and that leaves lazy typist. If you do not want to type, whay are you frequenting an internet forum?

Just food for thought my friend, food for thought.

Funnily enough when I was learning French we learned a bit of 'Txt Tlk.' But I that's a very good point.

I love the humour in the rules, it is one of the things that make this site so amazing.

I'm chatting with Lady through a messager, and I mentioned that what you said is one of the first wonderful things I noticed about this site and how you phrased exactly what I was thinking so eloquently.

She then suggested I point out your eloquence, since English is not your native tongue, nor is it for ywkbme. Erudite multilinguality always amazes me, since I'm American and monolingual. Kudos =)

But yeah, my only suggestion for the rules is a teaching rule I learned in martial arts called "The Pink Elephant". In it, you told someone "Don't think about a pink elephant", what's their first thought almost always going to be? They think about a pink elephant! So instead of saying "Don't be a jerk", one would say something like "Please be reasonable."

Basically, it's, in the end, it's all-around easier to comprehend, more positive, encouraging, and more sensible to tell someone what to do, instead of what not to do. I learned of this rule about a year ago and I still find myself stopping before even speaking to make it positive. Lady and I also had a short discussion on this, and she's quite skillful at it.

Also, I'm aware that the additional rules were more in jest than anything, but ehhhh, The Pink Elephant is a great concept so even if everything else I've said here is completely shot down by irrefutable logic and reasoning, at least it's a thought-provoking idea =)

I have a question about this thread. Why is there a warning symbol in front of the thread title?
[Quote] [Link]
That means it's "stickied". It always stays on top of the other threads, because it's important.
[Quote] [Link]
Ah, okay.
[Quote] [Link]
Excuse me for my ignorance, but what is 'txt' talk?
[Quote] [Link]
When you make words shorter and harder to read, such as substituting 'u' for 'you' or 'thx' for 'thank you', like when you send a text message.
[Quote] [Link]
Oh right, thanks.
I don't even do that while texting haha. I'm wierd perhaps.
[Quote] [Link]
I don't do that either, but I've always felt to be in a minority. Also, I don't text very often, and my phone has a qwerty keypad.

Also, you don't need to double-post, you can just edit.
[Quote] [Link]
Couldn't figure out how to delete second post, could a moderator or someone please delete? :)
[Quote] [Link]
One most likely will :)
[Quote] [Link]
If you want one of your double posts deleted, the best thing to do is flag it. That way one of the Mods will see it sooner.

That's not weird. I don't use txt speak either. I used to, but then I relized how utterly stupid it looks and sounds.
[Quote] [Link]
Actually the first bit of this is quite interesting. And this says that it's not stupid, though stupid people use it.
[Quote] [Link]
I never use text speak, even when I'm texting.
[Quote] [Link]
There are places to use text speak, and there are places you shouldn't. TwoCans isn't a place to use text speak.

What Sophy said.

My dad uses it, my mom doesn't.

This may or may not decide who I live with next year.
